To achieve an excellent finish in any painting project there are three (3) major factors that impact on a lasting quality and defect free painting job:

-The application process
-Surface preparation
PAINT DEFECTS
Many problems can and will occur during and after painting ; sometimes simultaneously, sometimes discreetly. The following are some of the common ones.

Blistering – This is the swelling of paint caused by the trapping of air, moisture or solvent between paint and films.
The Solution – Remove any unstable paint film and allow the substrate to dry thoroughly. Repaint with the recommended paint allowing the requisite interval between coats.

Algae/Fungus growth – This can occur when the surface is exposed continuously to a damp and dirty environment. The fungicide/algaecide content will leach out until exhausted. however, insufficient levels will cause premature failure.
The Solution – Treat the surface with a 10% commercial bleach solution and remove with high pressure spray washing after 30 minutes.

Chalking – This occurs when solar ultraviolet rays cause binding degradation. It can also occur when interior paints are applied to exterior exposures.
The Solution – remove unstable paint. Allow wall to dry thoroughly, and recoat with the recommended paint.
Efflorescence – This is the formation of white powder deposit on walls after painting caused by the salts present in the building material that migrate to the surface.
The Solution – Remove all traces of powder by washing. Allow to dry then apply 2 coats of Edgechem and top coat as recommended.
Wrinkling – This occurs when the paint orms film-like undulating waves. It results from applying too much paint or painting on the top coat before the undercoat is dry.
The Solution – Avoid applying too much paint. Wait until each dries before recoating.
